UC San Diego's Project GreenLight, which focuses on the development of metrics and
technologies to help minimize the environmental impact of the IT
industry, received a Sustainability Award from UC San Diego last week.
Calit2 and the university's Administrative Computing and Telecommunications (ACT)
group have invested $600,000 in matching funds, in the project, and several research scientists from Calit2 are playing active roles. Receiving the award were (pictured) former Calit2 Chief Technology Officer Greg Hidley, Vice Chancellor Steve Relyea, Calit2 Director Larry Smarr, Research Scientist Tom DeFanti, Computer Science & Engineering Professor Ingolf Krueger and Richard Carson, Chair of the Advisory Committee on Sustainability).
 The Sustainability Awards are designed to recognize members of the UCSD community --
from students, to faculty, to alumni -- who demonstrate a marked support for campus sustainability.
"These are the campus'
superstars," Vice Chancellor Steve Relyea said during the awards
